DVD of the Week: 'Cabin in the Woods'; Plus Awesome New Indiana Jones Box Set

The Cabin in the Woods The Joss Whedon/Drew Goddard horror comedy made a splash first at festivals then at the box office with its insider take on the horror genre. It pokes fun at it while delivering a straightforward plot involving five friends (each embodying a horror archetype) whose weekend getaway of fun takes a weird and gory turn into meta-nightmare as another apparently.completely story unfolds, unbeknownst to them. Once their paths cross and things gradually start becoming clear, it both celebrates and blows up the genre in a glorious, bloody finale.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel An all-star veteran cast including Tom Wilkinson and Judy Dench play a group of senior British expats who plan for a pleasant retirement in India, but when they get to their new home, they find a dilapidated, abandoned wreck. Worth watching for the incredible range of talent crammed into this little picture.

Katy Perry: Part of Me What should be just another Bieber-esque puff PR piece becomes more--well, somewhat more--than that thanks to Miss Perry's sheer likability. You get the sense that she's as candy-sweet and squeaky clean as her onstage persona, yet once her marriage to Russell Brand starts to fall apart, you see the vulnerable chinks in her armor. It just makes you like her more, regardless of what you think of her sugar pop music.

New on Blu

Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures Yessssss....the ultimate Blu-ray box set is here at long last, with all four iconc films included--and that means the newly restored Raiders of the Lost Ark that's been playing on IMAX screens with never-before-seen footage from the set and sound that augments Ben Burtt's original master mix unused since 1981 with stereo sound. The set includes seven hours of documentaries, featurettes and cast/crew interviews, along with an all-new two-part documentary called "On Set with Raiders of the Lost Ark -- From Jungle to Desert and From Adventure to Legend." Find out more in our visit to Lucas's Skywalker Ranch, where filmmakers offered some tidbits of info on the restoration.
