'Drive' Novel Gets Sequel. New Screen Version Coming?

You may not recognize James Sallis' name, but you no doubt saw the adaptation of his 2005 novel, Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and featuring Ryan Gosling in the role of the brooding Driver. Twitch is reporting that Drive fans of both sources may be in for a treat (depending what camp you're in) with a sequel to the neo-noir story about a Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a getaway motorist.

Driven is expected to publish in April 2012, and Poisoned Pen Press released this little teaser to whet your appetite: "Six years later — Phoenix. Out of nowhere someone wants Driver dead. Who? Why? Big mistake ..." Of course, this means fans of Refn and Gosling's collaboration could be seeing another installment after the duo complete work on Only God Forgives and Logan's Run.

If Refn and Gosling aren't involved, the project could be a huge disaster given our penchant for Gosling's embodiment of the character and Refn's skilled handling of the material. Do you see room for more Driver on the big screen? Could another actor just as easily get behind the steering wheel, or is it Goose fo' life?
