‘Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead’ to be Remade

Hollywood has been busy dabbling in ‘80s remakes these past couple of years, and now it looks like they’ve finally reached the 1990s. Pajiba reports that a Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead remake is being planned right now as we speak. They say it’s being produced by The Mark Gordon Company (2012), and that the project is now out to writers.

'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead'

For those who don’t remember the early ‘90s (and who does, really?), Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead starred Christina Applegate at a time when she was primarily known as the slutty (and moronic) Kelly Bundy on the TV show Married with Children. This was pretty much her first marketable leading role in a feature film (except for the drama Streets, which hit a year before), and while the comedy didn’t hit a home run at the box office, it’s become one of those cable cult hits over the years.

Applegate starred as the big sister in a family full of five kids who are left to fend for themselves after their old, meany babysitter up and dies on them. Hilarity – and a great early villainous role by David Duchovny – ensues. Still way too early to begin casting (the script isn’t even written yet!), but it sounds to me like the perfect role for someone like Hayden Panettiere to take on.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the original? Who do you think should star in the remake?
