There’s one thing that will happen after your kids see the new Shaun the Sheep movie, they will want one of their own -- a Shaun the sheep that is. While the unusually bright sheep, who resides in Mossy Bottom Farm in Great Britain, may be a work of fiction for film and TV, you can make your child’s Shaun the Sheep dreams come true by making them a smaller, softer and more manageable version.

You’ll need:

1 large adult sock

1 small child’s sock

½ yard of white faux shearling material

¼ yard black felt

1 rubber band

1 set googly eyes

Glue

Black and white thread

Needle

Cotton or polyester fill

Directions:

Step 1 – Make the body. Stuff the adult sock with the filling material. Put less of the filling in the toe part of the sock, using that part as the tail, secure that section with a rubber band. If the sock is too long, cut off the excess from the open end. Stitch the opening closed. Then take a section of the faux shearling material and cover the body with it, stitch the shearling onto the sock with a seam at what will be the body’s bottom. Thankfully the material is quite forgiving and the stitches will blend in the fabric.

Step 2 – Make the head. Stuff the child-sized sock with filling. If the sock is too long, cut off the excess at the open end. Stitch the opening closed. Wrap the sock in the black felt and sew the fabric tightly onto and around the sock.

Step 3 – Create a tuft of white for the top of the head. Cut a piece of the white shearing, a couple of inches wide and about four inches long. Roll in up the long way and stretch the edges of the sides over the edges to create a wide ball. Sew this on top of the head.

Step 4 – Securely sew the head to the body.

Step 5 – Make the legs. Cut four rectangular shapes of black fleece. Roll the fabric (the long way) to make long round legs. Sew the edges securing them to the bulk of the rolled up fabric. Sew the legs onto the body in equal distances.

Step 6– To finish the stuffed animal, glue the eyes onto the front of the head.  Then cut out long oblong-shaped stripes from the black felt with pointed edges for the ears. Fold over a small bit and sew onto one side of the head, making stitches on top of the black felt and onto the body so that the rest of the ear will arch over.

That’s it! Your very own handmade Shaun the Sheep stuffed animal.
