Disney/Pixar to Debut New 'Cars' Short This Friday

As Cars 2 continues to chug along toward its 2011 release date, Disney/Pixar will continue to debut a number of different short films set inside the ‘Cars’ universe. The latest, titled Heavy Metal Mater, was directed by John Lasseter and Rob Gibbs, and it will premiere on the Disney Channel this Friday at 9:30pm ET/PT.

Amusingly enough, Mark Mothersbaugh (lead singer of Devo) created the score for the short, which is fitting since it’s called Heavy Metal Mater and features Mater as a rock star in a garage band. The short will then follow Mater’s rise to the top of the charts with his hit song ‘Dad Gum.’ This is the seventh of nine Cars-related shorts Pixar will be shoveling out to fans as part of their Cars Toons lineup. In case you missed any of the previous shorts, a DVD and Blu-ray containing all nine will hit stores on November 2nd.
