Disney Sets Release Dates for 'Alice in Wonderland 2' and 'Jungle Book'

We've known for quite some time that Disney was developing a sequel to its billion-dollar worldwide box office hit Alice in Wonderland. The big question has always been when would we see it in theaters.

Today, Disney answered that question by setting Alice in Wonderland 2 for a Memorial Day 2016 weekend release. The film has an official release date of May 27, 2016.

Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska will return to reprise their roles from the first Alice movie. Muppets director James Bobin will take over for Tim Burton who helmed the first Alice movie.

Meanwhile, Disney also set a release date for another one of its live-action adaptations by locking in October 9, 2015 as the release date for The Jungle Book. There is no talent attached to The Jungle Book as of yet, though Jon Favreau will be directing the film that will be a live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's collection of stories.

It still may be a few years down the line, but are you interested in a sequel to Alice in Wonderland? With Disney on a streak of adapting its classic characters and properties into live-action films, what other Disney properties would you like to see get the live-action treatment?
