'Death Race': Opening Friday...Or Maybe Not?

Our sister site Fancast has an interesting mention today about this Friday's release for Death Race. Everybody on the Internet's been buzzing about next year's Watchmen release, which has now been officially watched (and served) by Fox, who're seeking to block its opening due to rights issues. But could the same happen to Universal's Death Race? With less than 48 hours to go before opening, we're thinking no...but if producer Jeremy Bolt and producer/director Paul W.S. Anderson (king of the Resident Evil series) did actually rip off writer Adam Stone's Joust script (Stone claims "39 elements" were lifted)...then maybe this should be a win for the little guy. Personally, though, if Death Race reminds me of anything, it'd be 1987's Ah-nuld sci-fi/action extravaganza The Running Man (where you ran for your freedom, or were killed by mean-looking WWF rejects)...crossed with The Road Warrior.

Opening Aug. 22nd...we think...
