David Yates Targets Alexander Skarsgard for 'Tarzan'

Last week, we reported that David Yates, best known for helming the last four Harry Potter films, had committed to directing Warner Bros.' live-action Tarzan movie.

During the initial announcement, it was revealed that Yates had been eyeing three actors in particular for the title role – Henry Cavill, who will play Superman in WB's Man of Steel, Charlie Hunnam, who stars in WB's Pacific Rim and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard. Tom Hardy was also mentioned as a suggested possibility by studio execs.

Now one name from that pile has risen as Yates' preferred choice for the role – Skarsgard.

Variety is reporting that though Skarsgard has not received an official offer and WB has not finalized any casting decisions, the film is expected to be greenlit by the end of the year. Production is slated to begin next summer.

Samuel L. Jackson is also being eyed to play Williams, "a Civil War veteran eager to redeem himself for his part in the massacre of Native Americans."

We'll keep you posted on any casting confirmations from this film. For now though, do you like Skarsgard for the Tarzan role? What do you make of this Samuel L. Jackson Civil War vet character?
