Darren Aronofsky to Direct 'Wolverine 2'?

With director Darren Aronofsky officially out of the running to direct Superman now that Zack Snyder has landed that gig, it looks as if he might be sliding into the vacant director's chair for Wolverine 2. It's not a done deal yet since there's another project competing for his time – the period crime piece Gangster Squad – so don't go dreaming up what an Aronofsky-helmed Wolverine movie would look like just yet.

If Aronofsky does land the gig, though, that means David Slade will be out. Slade had previously been thought to be the frontrunner for the job, especially after turning in a successful Twilight film with Eclipse. Aronofsky may be the bigger name, but Slade has already proved he can handle all the pressures of directing a big blockbuster, so you'd think they'd go with him.
Plus 20th Century Fox is very protective over their X-Men franchise, and Aronofsky is a guy you bring onto a film to get a little risky with it. Fox doesn't like risky; not with one of their most lucrative characters. In my opinion, Fox should hire David Slade (a brilliant, moody director, by the way) for Wolverine 2, and then Warner Bros. should hand Aronofsky the Batman franchise in 2013 after "trying him out" on a somewhat bigger film in Gangster Squad.
