Superhero Movies News

Daily Recap: 'Skyfall' Updates, Schwarzenegger's 'Last Stand' Trailer and the Latest 'Breaking Dawn' Photos

News and Notes

John Goodman has been handed the villain role in Todd Phillips’ The Hangover Part III. Wait, the Hangover movies have villains? [Variety]

Brenda Chapman finally opens up about losing out on the opportunity to direct Pixar’s Brave. “It has been a heartbreakingly hard road for me over the last year and a half,” Chapman writes in the New York Times. “When Pixar took me off of Brave – a story that came from my heart, inspired by my relationship with my daughter – it was devastating.” Read the rest. It’s compelling.

As we revealed earlier today, The Avengers 2 has a release date. It’s May 1, 2015

Busy day for James Mangold’s The Wolverine. The director joined Twitter. (Follow him for updates from the set.) Russian beauty Svetlana Khodchenkova has been confirmed for the role of Viper. In addition, Fox released a plot synopsis:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan,
the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There,
samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw
as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past
in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

We have been talking about Raiders of the Lost Ark coming back to theaters in IMAX, yet AMC also says it will marathon-screen all four Indiana Jones movies (yes, even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) on Sept. 15. For a complete list of participating theaters, click here.

Fantastic Fest -- scheduled to kick off on Sept. 20 in Austin, Texas – announced its second wave of programming today. Titles include Rian Johnson’s Looper, the Cannes hit Holy Motors, and The ABCs of Death. For more details, visit the fest’s official site.

And in an interview with the L.A. Times, J.J. Abrams said it’s “preposterous and embarrassing that movies cost what they do.” In the same story, it’s noted that Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel costs an estimated $185, but Abrams has produced a number of films that were made for less than $25M. Do you agree with his opinion, though?

Videos, Clips and Trailers

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a meaty role in The Expendables 2, which opens in theaters on Friday. But his true Hollywood “comeback” role will be in Kim Jee-Woon’s The Last Stand. The first trailer dropped today, and I’m not exaggerating – it looks terrific:

So does Skyfall, which continues to tease James Bond fans with in-depth, behind-the-scenes video blogs. Today’s clip teases the various London locations employed by Sam Mendes and his crew:

The theatrical trailer for the high-school-reunion comedy 10 Years hit Yahoo Movies today. The film’s cast is a laundry list of impressive young talents. Channing Tatum. Rosario Dawson. Chris Pratt. Kate Mara. Justin Long. Aubrey Plaza. Max Minghella. Anthony Mackie. The trailer looks solid. See for yourself:

Pics and Posters

Summit Entertainment is tired of everyone talking about Kristen Stewart and the possible Snow White and the Huntsman sequel. They’re here to remind us all that KStew has The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 heading to theaters … and soon! Here are six images, some of which might qualify as “uncomfortable” thanks to the Stewart/Pattinson split. No such thing as bad press though, right?

We’re getting closer to the release date of Stephen Chbosky’s adaptation of his own best-selling novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Fifteen stills from the coming-of-age drama hit the Web today.

Finally, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Tweeted a photo from the set of Justin Lin’s Fast Six today. Yes, that’s Haywire star Gina Carano playing Rock’s partner. Consider yourself excited.
