Daily Recap: Diane Kruger To Star In Yet Another Abe Lincoln Movie, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Hires New Writer

News and Notes

Diane Kruger is set to star in yet another Abraham Lincoln movie. The Green Blade Rises sounds more like a kung-fu action movie, but instead, finds Kruger portraying Sarah Lincoln, Abe's gorgeous stepmother. The film is being produced by Terrance Malick along with Nicolas Gonda and Charley Beil and tells the story of Lincoln's relationship with the two women in his life who guided him to immortality (figuratively speaking). The story will span three formative years of Abe's life in the vast wilderness of Indiana. The film is being shot in black and white and production is set to begin in the fall. Steven Spielberg's take on Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis will arrive in theaters on November 9 and the Tim Burton produced popcorn flick Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is currently playing in theaters.

Marvel has hired Chris McCoy to rewrite the script for Guardians of the Galaxy. Though he has yet to have a produced credit to his name, McCoy does have three scripts on the Black List (a list of much-buzzed about yet unproduced scripts) and has been praised for his quirky comedic flair. Nicole Perlman wrote the previous draft for the film which isn't due in theaters until August 1, 2014. [THR]

Matthew McConaughey has signed on for yet another film. This time, the seemingly ubiquitous actor has signed on to play Mark Hanna, an early boss and mentor to Leonardo DiCaprio's Jordan Belfort in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. [Variety]

Drew Barrymore is set to helm a modestly budgeted apocalypse drama for Warner Bros. called The End. This will be the second film Barrymore directs following her debut in 2009 with Whip It. The film takes a multi-linear approach which includes "a sixtysomething radio personality in London intent on broadcasting until the end, a father trying to make it through the chaos in Tokyo to reach his wife and baby and a teenage couple in the American Midwest being pulled in different directions by their families." [THR]

Kristen Stewart has signed on to star in an adaptation of William Styron's Lie Down in Darkness. [Vulture]

Weeks after a lawsuit was filed by MGM, the filmmakers behind Raging Bull II have decided to change the name of the movie to The Bronx Bull and will publicly disassociate themselves from the original Martin Scorsese film. [THR]

Blood Diamond scribe Charles Leavitt will take a stab at rewriting the long-delayed World of Warcraft movie. [Variety]

Writer/producer Frank Spotnitz talks about how he still wants to do a third X-Files movie and that it would be a "cultural crime" to not finish the series. [Collider]

Paz Vega has been cast in the Grace Kelly biopic Grace of Monaco starring Nicole Kidman. Vega will play opera legend Maria Callas. [Variety]
