David Fincher, who had long been rumored to be in the running for the Celopatra biopic starring Angelina Jolie, has dropped out. Now the spotlight is on Ang Lee, who directed the Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain and returns to theaters this fall with Life of Pi. Lee is one of several candidates Sony is looking at to replace Fincher. Thus far, James Cameron and Paul Greengrass were at one time attached to helm the picture, but dropped out for various reasons. Fincher entered the picture back in March 2011 when he was finishing up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Lee has not received an official offer nor begun negotiations. [Vulture]
The remake of Maniac starring Elijah Wood has been picked up for distribution by IFC Midnight. That been said, no release date has been announced yet for the first-person serial killer film. [Deadline]
Stephen Gaghan, who wrote Traffic and directed Syriana, is now set to direct the crime thriller Candy Store and even more exciting is the news that Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington are in talks to star as leads. [THR]
Martin Scorsese is being sued by the producer of Silence. Scorsese had planned to do the film fifteen years ago and it has remained in a "pending" state ever since. After the release of Hugo, the consensus thought was that Silence would be next. Instead Scorsese moved on to The Wolf of Wall Street and the producer of Silence is now suing Scorsese for breach of contract among other things. [Deadline]
Chuck Norris says he won't be returning for The Expendables 3. Norris said that the experience of working on Expendables 2 – getting to reunite with old friends and fellow action stars like Stallone and Schwarzenegger – was enough. Here's the full Access Hollywood video.
