Costume King: Joker Beats Batman

This year brings us an interesting array of Halloween getups, with all the superheroes, villains and divas portrayed on the big screen recently. We surveyed nearly 3,000 filmgoers about the top movie-inspired costumes for Halloween, and, no surprise here, the crown goes to “The Joker,” as immortalized by the late Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Christian Bale’s “Batman” trailed closely behind and Robert Downey, Jr.’s “Iron Man” took third place.

Heath Ledger as The Joker And now for the ladies. First place goes to Anna Faris’ sex icon in The House Bunny. Angelina Jolie’s assassin Fox from Wanted followed, but for teens whose moms won’t let them don a playboy bunny outfit or tote a few guns, Hanna Montana came in third.

Movies releasing after Halloween are also providing costume ideas, such as Twilight’s Bella, which ranked fifth. Group coordination could be popular this year with High School Musical 3 for inspiration, as well as Sex and the City ladies for a more mature crowd.

Excited about dressing up? The Joker in a nurse’s uniform—that’d put a smile on my face.
