'Cloudy 2' First-Look Photo Shows Us Delicious, Dangerous Fruit Beasts

Did you save enough room for a second helping of Meatballs?

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was a sizable hit for Sony Animation back in 2009, bellying up to $243M in worldwide box office and getting audience members salivating for another story. It takes a while for animation teams to compile sequels, but Cloudy fans can circle Sept. 27 as the day they’ll get to go back for more.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 shared a first-look photo with USA Today, which broke down the “species of Food-imals” that will populate the sequel. We’re seeing everything from Watermelophants to Fruit Cockatiel.

The plot, meanwhile, catches up with inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) minutes after the conclusion of the first movie. He is being recognized by his idol, Chester V (Will Forte), and is invited to join The Live Corp Company, where the best and brightest inventors share ideas. Before he gets too comfortable, though, he learns that the machine he invented to turn water into food continues to malfunction, and now is creating food beasts. As you can see.

The Cloudy sequel is coming to theaters on Sept. 27. It will be co-directed by series newcomers Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, and stars the voices of Anna Faris, Neil Patrick Harris, Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Benjamin Bratt and James Caan.
