Cine Latino: Alfonso Cuarón, Michelle Rodriguez, Rodrigo Santoro and More Take Over Comic-Con

Cine Latino covers, well, all things relating to Latino culture and the movies, every Wednesday.

The geekiest and largest international comic fiesta is finally here and Latino filmmakers are in attendance ready to showcase their latest sci-fi projects. Comic-Con festivities begin today with preview night and end Sunday, July 21.

For those attending the convention this year, here’s a quick lowdown on a few Latino celebs you won’t want to miss.

Sebastian Codereo, Europa Report

Brazilian director Sebastian Cordero’s Europa Report merges sci-fi and real science to depict a space mission to Jupiter's moon Europa. The Hall H panel will feature the film's cast and crew, including Cordero, composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead), producer Ben Browing and actress Karolina Wydra, along with JPL scientist Steve Vance and Kevin Hand.

Entertainment Weekly’s Visionaries

Director’s Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 500 Days of Summer), Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and Edgar Wright (The World's End, Shaun of the Dead) will lead a master class on filmmaking and the future of film.

Marvel Cup O’ Joe

Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada will be on hand to answer some of your most pressing questions about the Marvel universe. He’ll discuss new developments in Marvel comics, film and TV. New developments for Guardians of the Galaxy will also be announced. Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso will be part of the guest panel.

Roberto Orci, Ender’s Game and Sleepy Hollow

Executive producer Roberto Orci will be partaking in two panels this year, starting with the Hall H Ender’s Game panel on Thursday and a Q&A on Friday for Sleepy Hallow, alongside Alex Kurtzman. Friday’s panel will include a world-premiere screening of the pilot.

Jose Padilha, RoboCop

Sony and Screen Gems will be hosting a Hall H panel on Friday, which includes Jose Padilha’s RoboCop. The part-man, part-robot police officer storyline has a February 2014 release date but fans attending the Hall H panel will be able to get a sneak peek of the film and interact with Padilha and stars Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish and Samuel L. Jackson.

Entertainment Weekly's Women Who Kick Ass

Michelle Rodriguez (Machete Kills, Fast and Furious franchise), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead) and others will open up about playing badass characters and the portrayal of females in Hollywood.

Rodrigo Santoro, 300: Rise of an Empire

Director Noam Murro, Rodrigo Santoro and other lead cast members will be on hand on Saturday to talk all things 300: Rise of an Empire. The film is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel Xerxes. Expect to indulge in never-before-seen footage.

Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity

Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron will be presenting his much anticipated sci-fi adventure Gravity, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Get there early to participate in the Q&A session.
