Christoph Waltz May Play Villain in 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5'

Two years have sailed by since the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie cut a swath through theaters on its way to another $1 billion tally. The fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie is expected to arrive in theaters in 2016 and we're starting to hear casting rumors.

Obviously Johnny Depp will return to reprise his role of Captain Jack Sparrow and London's Daily Mail reports that Keith Richards has signed on to play Sparrow's father in the sequel.

The Daily Mail report also claims that Christoph Waltz (Django UnchainedInglorious Basterds) "may" play the main villain in the sequel. Waltz would play a ghost named Captain Brand who is racing Sparrow to claim a valuable item known as the Trident.

The Daily Mail has been known to run unverified rumors in the past, so take the potential addition of Waltz to the cast with a grain of salt. Richards however has spoken previously of talking with Depp about working in the sequel, so his inclusion into the next Pirates movie seems more likely.

While Waltz would be an excellent fit as a Pirates villain, the actor has a busy slate in front of him. He'll begin production on the crime drama Triple Nine and thriller Candy Store in the coming months and is currently filming Horrible Bosses 2. Pirates 5 is expected to begin production in October 2014.

Do you think Waltz would be a great fit as a Disney/Pirates villain?
