It’s time for Chris Hemsworth to show his fan base that he’s capable of doing more than swinging a hammer or an ax through a string of comic book or fairy tale-based fantasy epics.
In Rush, Hemsworth plays Formula One racer James Hunt, whose rivalry with fellow driver Niki Lauda powered the sport in the 1970s. We’re interested in Rush for various reasons, and they’re not all tied to Hemsworth. Ron Howard will direct, stepping behind the camera for the first time since 2011’s The Dilemma. It also reunites him with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon), which should create anticipation.
The first trailer for Howard’s racing drama hammers home to dangers of the sport, with Hemsworth talking about his car being “a bomb on wheels,” and drivers reiterating that they have expect to die every time they get behind the wheel. A fiery crash anchors the trailer, and we’ll leave it to you to see where the story goes from there.
Here’s the first Rush trailer, courtesy of MSN UK followed by the domestic trailer courtesy of Yahoo Movies. The movie reaches the States on Sept. 20. Could Universal be pole-positioning Rush for an Oscar run?
