Hollywood loves revisiting its past glories. Popular properties are revived and reboot with reckless abandon, sometimes with original cast members and sometimes with completely new actors in familiar roles.
Vacation, the planned reboot of the famous National Lampoon’s series, appears like it’s going to be a mix of both. Ed Helms of The Hangover series is on board to play an older version of Rusty Griswold, and Christina Applegate is in discussions to play his domineering wife. Now Variety is reporting that legendary Vacation takers Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are set to reprise their roles of Clark and Ellen Griswold.
The Griswolds first hit the road back in 1983, piloting their vintage station wagon toward Wally World, with predictably disastrous results. Sequels took them to Europe, Las Vegas and home for the holidays. This new film would follow up with an older Rusty as he tries to take his own family on a vacation.
Bringing familiar faces back after a long hiatus usually helps a sequel. It’s part of the reason Ghostbusters 3 refuses to give up on Bill Murray as it fights to make its way back to the screen.
And while Chase is currently occupied filming NBC’s sitcom Community, he took time to reprise his role of Clark for a series of Old Navy commercials, which was a fresh blast of nostalgia.
What do you think? Would you be more willing to see a Vacation reboot with Chase and D’Angelo back in their iconic roles? And if you had to pick another classic cast to reunite, whom would you like to see on the big screen? Let us know below.
