'Catching Fire' Images Show Maturity, Sadness; Trailer Coming Sunday

In anticipation of this weekend’s new teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (it will debut Sunday evening during the MTV Movie Awards, and we’ll have it for you right here), Lionsgate sneaks two images of Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence reprising her role of warrior child Katniss Everdeen.

That top image strikes us for one main reason: Lawrence looks so much more mature than she did in the original Hunger Games. Granted, Katniss has endured a lifetime of pain and suffering in a short amount of time. But that photo really captures a wistful sincerity and a stoic fearlessness that we’ve come to expect from Katniss. Lawrence really does embody the best of the character from Suzanne Collins’ novels.

The second image, which was posted on the movie’s official Web site (and shared via EW), shows Katniss embracing the little squirt who got her in the mess in the first place … younger sister Prim Everdeen. Check it out below:

We’ll be ramping up for the release of Catching Fire with the sharing of the trailer Sunday night. Then we’ll settle in for a long wait, as the sequel doesn’t open in theaters until Nov. 22.

For now, do you like the images?
