Natalie Portman in Superman?
Casting Scoop: Natalie Portman as Lois Lane, Jared Harris in 'Sherlock Holmes 2' and Josh Holloway in 'MI:4'
Yesterday we told you that Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler) had met with Christopher Nolan about potentially directing the new Superman movie, and not even 24 hours later we now have word that should Aronofsky take on the job, Natalie Portman will in all likelihood play Lois Lane. Moviehole reports that Warner Bros. originally wanted Portman to play Lois Lane in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, but for whatever reason that didn't happen. Now, though, having just finished working with Aronofsky on Black Swan (which is a film that may earn the actress an Oscar), Portman would totally be down with taking on the role of Clark Kent/Superman's love interest … but only if Aronofsky directs.
Will he decide to take the reins? We don't know. Aronofsky is a director who seems like he wants to helm a really big film next, and that could be Superman (funnily enough, he was once attached to direct a Batman movie based on a Frank Miller storyline). What do you think? Could you see Aronofsky directing and Portman playing Lois Lane? Who would you even cast as Superman?
Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2
Ever since we saw him in the shadows at the end of Sherlock Holmes, we've been itching to find out who would play Sherlock's arch-nemesis, Professor Moriarty, in the sequel. Everyone from Russell Crowe to Brad Pitt to Daniel Day-Lewis have been rumored, but now Latino Review claim (via very reliable sources) that Jared Harris (son of Richard Harris), who plays Lane Pryce on Mad Men, is the man who's finally nabbed the much-coveted role. Harris has also appeared in films like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (as Captain Mike) and Lady in the Water. Not the biggest name in the world, but you don't really want a huge name here because then audiences get lost watching the actor instead of watching the character. Good choice, I say. What do you think?
"Lost's" Josh Holloway Signs for 'Mission Impossible 4'
Though, technically, it's not called Mission Impossible 4, that's how everyone seems to be referring to it. For example, THR reports today that Josh Holloway has nabbed his first big-screen role since leaving the TV show "Lost," and that he'll be part of Tom Cruise's Impossible Mission Force in the upcoming fourth installment of the action franchise. We still don't know what this sucker will be about, only that it won't really be a Mission Impossible movie in the way the previous three films were. It may have a different title and a different feel, though regardless the cast they're lining up is pretty impressive. Holloway will join Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Paula Patton and Vladimir Mashkov in the film, which will shoot in Vancouver, Prague and Dubai with an eye toward a release date of December 2011.
