Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock

Bullock and Hanks Get ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’

In a movie that oh-so-obviously screams “potential Oscar contender,” Tom Hanks will be teaming up with Sandra Bullock on an adaptation of the bestselling Jonathan Safran Foer novel, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Hanks and Bullock aren’t the only high-caliber talent involved either, since Stephen Daldry (The Reader, The Hours, Billy Elliot) has signed on to direct and Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) wrote the screenplay. So should we just give this flick an Oscar now, or what?
The novel follows a nine-year-old boy who finds a key that belonged to his deceased father (he died in the 9/11 attacks), and decides to go on a hunt through New York City to find out the story behind that key. This will mark the first time both Hanks and Bullock have starred in a film together. Do they make a good pair? [Variety]
Carey Mulligan to Join Ryan Gosling in ‘Drive’
Since she won’t be playing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, rising star Carey Mulligan has instead decided to take on what sounds like a pretty sexy thriller starring the always reliable Ryan Gosling. The film will follow a Hollywood stuntman (Gosling) who moonlights as a getaway car driver during robberies. Things go horribly wrong during one robbery, leaving our stuntman with a contract out on his head and an ex-con’s girlfriend (Mulligan) in his car. The film is called Drive, since, well, one assumes that’s what they’ll be doing for most of the movie. Production begins next month in Los Angeles, so look for this one to hit in 2011.

Angelina Jolie to Star in Bosnian Love Story
Hot off her action-oriented role in this summer’s Salt, Angelina Jolie looks to be switching gears for her next film: a love story set during the Bosnian war. Though Jolie has several projects all at different stages of production, this will definitely be her next movie, and the actress is currently prepping it in Sarajevo for a shoot this fall. It will apparently focus on a couple who meet shortly before war breaks out, and the trials and tribulations they go through amidst an all-out war. Jolie hopes to cast as many locals as she can to give the film an authentic feel, and claims “it’s a love story, not a political statement.”
My question to you: If you had a choice, would you rather see Jolie doing love stories or action films? [Reuters]
