Bruce Willis to Join 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' as the Original G.I. Joe?

Jon Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation is still in the casting phase, and today’s latest gossip has us plenty excited about the follow-up to the 2009 film Rise of Cobra.

THR is reporting that Bruce Willis is the latest name to be linked to the project. Willis is in negotiations to become a part of the film, and should the Die Hard star join the cast he’d be playing General Joe Colton -- the man responsible for starting the Joe team in the first place. According to the G.I. Joe Wiki, Colton was tasked with creating an elite team of military commandos by none other than President John F. Kennedy – and thus G.I. Joe was born…

If Willis enlists, he’ll join fellow newcomers Dwayne Johnson, Adrienne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, and The Wu-Tang Clan’s The RZA in the cast. Channing Tatum, star of the original film, will also reprise his role as Duke. We like the idea of Willis playing a grizzled military man in the sequel – it’s the kind of role the actor always shines in, and it gives a little extra star power to a film that Paramount has high hopes for. Even if his part is just a minor one, there’s little doubt that Willis’ involvement will have audiences anticipating the project. Now let’s just hope they write a better script for the sequel than they did for the first film.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is set to start shooting in New Orleans later this month. Paramount will release the film in theaters on June 29th of next year.

Would Bruce Willis’ involvement have you more excited about a G.I. Joe sequel or did the first film put you off the franchise entirely? Share your thoughts below.
