Bruce Campbell Reveals Who Will Play Ash in 'The Evil Dead' Remake

The Evil DeadEven though horror remakes tend to rile their fanbases more than any other type of remake, few have rattled the fanboy cages harder than The Evil Dead.  For years the mere idea of a remake of Sam Raimi's beloved cabin-in-the-woods classic was enough to piss people off.  After all, how could anyone dare attempt to step into Bruce Campbell's shoes in the role of Ash, destroyer of deadites?  That role is so uniquely Bruce Campbell that anyone trying to do it would just be, well, a very, very bad idea.

Thankfully Sam Raimi agrees.

Weeks ago it was revealed that Diablo Cody was doing a rewrite on a script written by director Fede Alvarez, which only rattled the cage more.  Right out of the gate fans were dreading the idea of hearing Cody's trademarked hyperslang coming out of a new Ash's mouth, but as it turns out, that'll never happen.  Ash isn't even in the movie.

Bruce Campbell took to Twitter to set the record straight in two succinct tweets that Shock 'Til You Drop brought to our attention:

The first: “@Shipwreck2k: That's the first i've heard of the remake.. Who are they casting for ash?” No Ash character currently.

The second: "Twitter fails when info gets fragmented. Last statement: ED remake is a re-telling. All bets are off & all involved love the new approach."

So there you have it.  The Evil Dead remake isn't actually a direct remake of the film that put Campbell and Raimi on the map.  Presumably it'll just be a re-telling about a group of co-eds who head out to a cabin in the woods only to feel the undead powers of the Necronomicon.  So, put away the pitchforks for now; it's not as dire as you feared.
