Bradley Cooper Is Crazy--Literally--for Jennifer Lawrence in First 'Silver Linings Playbook' Trailer

Much like the boxer at the heart of its story, David O. Russell’s The Fighter was an unstoppable hit. It started as an underdog contender punching its way into Oscar season. It emerged victorious in two key categories – Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale) and Best Supporting Actress (Melissa Leo).
Though Bale has moved on to a little film called The Dark Knight Rises and Fighter lead Mark Wahlberg next can be seen in Ted, audiences might not have known what Russell has been working on since putting The Fighter to bed. Today, they have their answer.
Russell’s next picture, The Silver Linings Playbook, is a star-studded adaptation of Matthew Quick’s novel of the same name. It tells the story of an ex-teacher (Bradley Cooper) who returns home after four years in a mental facility and moves back in with his mother so that he can reconcile with his ex-wife. The cast rounds out with heavy hitters like Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles and Robert De Niro.
But so far, this looks like Cooper’s show, his chance to prove once and for all that he isn’t just the “pretty face” from The Hangover (despite critically acclaimed turns in movies like Limitless and Wedding Crashers). The trailer also sells an uplifting message that I’m not sure I expected from the director of Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees. All of a sudden, I’m intrigued.
Here’s the trailer. The Silver Linings Playbook will be in theaters on Nov. 21, perfectly positioned for a possible Oscar run.
