Box Office: Who Will Win The Weekend (9/10-12)

Last weekend proved George Clooney is one of the only A-list actors left in Hollywood who can open a movie at number one no matter what. Though audiences felt the movie put them to sleep, The American still managed to cough up a measly $16 million for the win, while my pick, Going the Distance, wound up in fifth place with only $8.5 million. This week sees two new releases hit theaters, one of which is a fourth installment in a franchise. We don't see many fourth installments these days, so kudos to Resident Evil for making it that far. Let's take a closer look …

"Resident Evil: Afterlife" and "The Virginity Hit"

What's The Scoop: Milla Jovovich returns guns blazing in this fourth installment of the popular video game adaptation that finds our hero, Alice, once again on a journey to help save the survivors of a nasty virus that's ravaged the world and turned people into the undead.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: For starters, it's the first 3D film since Avatar to use the special Fusion Camera System that James Cameron created and used for Avatar, so chances are pretty high that you'll like this 3D a lot more than some of the other films you've seen this year. As far as the film itself, well, if you're a Resident Evil fan, then you already know what to expect.
What's The Scoop: From producer Will Ferrell, this low-budget teen sex comedy comes from the guys who wrote (funnily enough) The Last Exorcism, and, like other teen sex comedies before it, follows a group of friends looking to help their friend lose his virginity.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: The lack of a familiar cast may hurt it, but then again there hasn't been a quality teen sex comedy since American Pie, and while this film looks to have a lot in common with American Pie, that's not exactly a bad thing considering it's one of the greatest teen sex comedies ever made.
My Prediction: 3D has proven to be a box office killer, and with its built-in audience and sexy star, Resident Evil: Afterlife should easily win the weekend.
Now it's your turn to chime in – who do you think will win the weekend?
