Box Office: Who Will Win The Weekend?

It’s the week before The Twilight Saga: Eclipse comes out, and while movie stars like Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler arrive in theaters this weekend, it certainly feels like a quiet before the storm. Toy Story 3 helped Pixar to their best opening ever last weekend, and the animated threequel seems like it’s poised to remain on top … unless one of those aforementioned men can take the toons down. Let’s take a look at all the players …

'Knight and Day' vs. 'Grown Ups'

What’s The Scoop: Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz star in this action-comedy about an average woman (Diaz) who finds her life in shambles after a secret agent (Cruise) takes her on a worldwide whirlwind of an adventure.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Its Tom Cruise doing what he does best: running, jumping, shooting and killing. Is he still a star worthy of your immediate box office dollars? Early returns indicate that audiences aren’t all that interested in action-Cruise, though the weekend is still young and there’s still plenty of time for this one to take off.
What’s The Scoop: Adam Sandler teams up with real-life pals (and SNL vets) Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider and Kevin James for this comedy about a bunch of old friends who reunite to attend the funeral of their old basketball coach.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Marketing for this one has been in full swing, and it seems like these guys have been everywhere promoting it. Critics, however, have been cruel, but that’s never stopped an Adam Sandler flick from succeeding in the past.
My Prediction: Though Cruise and Sandler are still heavy hitters at the box office, I feel Toy Story 3 (and its 3D) will ultimately win out and nab a second weekend in a row. Look for its streak to end next week, though, as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse steamrolls its way into theaters.
Which film do you think will win the box office this weekend?
