Box Office: Who Will Win the Weekend?

A dark, cold jolt of reality was sent through Twi-hard Nation last week when The Blind Side, um, blindsided all of us by taking the top spot at the box office from The Twilight Saga: New Moon. We'll live, though, and with James Cameron's Avatar on the horizon for next week, there's a sort of calm before the storm mentality quietly making its way through Hollywood at the moment. But if you can't see Avatar until next weekend, then what can you see this weekend? Let's find out!

What's the Scoop: Disney returns to hand-drawn 2D animation with this spin on the classic tale about a Princess, a frog and a very important kiss. The film also marks a milestone for Disney since it features their first ever African-American Princess.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: C'mon, it's a Disney cartoon! Good buzz and the chance to feel nostalgic with some quality hand-drawn animation should help give this flick a healthy boost at the box office.

What's the Scoop: Morgan Freeman plays famed African leader Nelson Mandela in this drama from director Clint Eastwood that's based on a true story. Matt Damon stars as the leader of a rugby team that Mandela will try to use to unite a nation…and win the World Cup.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Two words: Oscar buzz. A best picture and best director nod is almost a given for Invictus, and so those folks wanting to take in some of the best of what 2009 has to offer should find plenty to enjoy here.

My Prediction: While The Blind Side still seems to be feeding off a healthy dose of buzz, I just can't see anything beating The Princess and the Frog this weekend. It's Disney doing what they do best, and whenever that's the case the folks turn out in droves.

But maybe I'm wrong (believe me I've been wrong before), so definitely vote in our poll below and let us know who you think will win the weekend.
