Box Office: Who Will Win The Weekend?

Welcome back to another edition of our weekly box office poll. We took last week off because The Twilight Saga: New Moon was pretty much the obvious winner (as evidenced by its ginormous $142 million box office haul), but now we’re back with some new films arriving in theaters and what may or may not be a tighter competition. Let’s take a look:

Old Dogs
What’s The Scoop: From the folks who brought you Wild Hogs, here Robin Williams and John Travolta star as a couple of friends/business partners who, through some bizarre circumstances, find themselves in charge of 7-year-old twins.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: If it does anywhere near the kind of business that Wild Hogs did ($39 million opening weekend, $253 million total worldwide), then Old Dogs should easily take the weekend. That said, Wild Hogs wasn’t going up against Edward Cullen.
Ninja Assassin
What’s The Scoop: Asian pop sensation Rain stars in this pop-electric ninja flick that was produced by the Wachowski Brothers (Matrix trilogy), which means there will be plenty of fun fight scenes and slo-mo intensity.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: We’ve been itching for a kick-ass action flick to hit theaters for quite some time now, and while critics haven’t been too fond of it, the commercials and trailers will certainly sell those members of the moviegoing public interested in a little ninja fighting over the holiday weekend.
Fantastic Mr. Fox
What’s The Scoop: Expanding nationwide this weekend is this quirky Wes Anderson-directed tale based on the classic Roald Dahl book about a sneaky fox and the farmers out to hunt him down.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: The stop-motion may entice some parents, though Anderson’s strange, dry, indie-centric humor may not go over too well with the little ones. However, a voice cast that includes George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson is more than a little enticing.
My Prediction: Though I can see both Ninja Assassin and Old Dogs doing pretty good business over the long weekend, there’s no way I see either film beating The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which should be poised to repeat (though don’t expect the ridiculously big numbers from last week).
Now it’s your turn: Who do you think will win the weekend?
