Box Office Poll: Who Will Win The Weekend? (3/4-3/6)

The first weekend of March brings with it a whole bunch of options when it comes to movies to go see. Over the past couple years, March and April have turned into sort of like a pre-game for the summer blockbuster season, with studios taking more chances by releasing bigger films in these months before things really begin to heat up. But before you click on over to buy tickets right here at Fandango, why not scope out your choices for this week …

What’s The Scoop: After working together on three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, director Gore Verbinski once again teams up with Johnny Depp on an animated film about a chameleon (Depp) who bumbles his way into the town of Dirt, convinces the people there that he’s someone he’s not, and then subsequently must try to defend the town from evildoers.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Johnny Depp sells movie tickets, even when he’s playing an animated chameleon, however the film’s adult undertones may make some parents weary of taking their kids to this one, which could impact its final numbers.
What’s The Scoop: Matt Damon stars in this freaky flick based on a Philip K. Dick story about a guy who can’t seem to score with the girl of his dreams because a mysterious group is changing his life so that he can’t be with her.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: There’s positive buzz, and the trailers show Matt Damon doing a lot of running – and when he runs in a movie, I think that’s a good thing .. right?
What’s The Scoop: Contemporary live-action take on the Beauty and the Beast story featuring Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens as angst-ridden high school kids searching for love and understanding.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Pettyfer is slowly building a name for himself, though it didn’t help him much with last month’s I Am Number Four. Hudgens should help bring in some of the tween crowd, though, who may be too old for Rango and too young for our next film.
What’s The Scoop: Topher Grace stars in this throwback to the 1980s featuring a bunch of kids trying to fall in love, find themselves, and party their asses off all in the span of one crazy night.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: People still like 80s music, right?
My Prediction: I don’t like betting against Johnny Depp, so I won’t do it. Rango for the win.
Now it’s your turn – sound off in our poll below and let us know which film you think will win the weekend.
