Best New Trailers and Clips: 'Housebound' and More

We go down under for our top pick. Housebound hails from New Zealand and features a very dry sense of humor along with a creepy atmosphere and a winning lead character, played by Morgana O'Reilly. She must move back in with her mother when she is sentenced to home detention; Mum thinks the house is haunted, but she only knows the half of it. We saw this at the South by Southwest film festival earlier this year and give it our stamp of approval. The movie opens in theaters on October 17. []

The Midnight Swim

This creepy video creates a very unsettling vibe. Set to debut at the Fantasia film festival in Montreal, Canada, on Sunday, July 27, the movie follows three half-sisters who return home after their mother goes missing in Spirit Lake. Things get even creepier after the women summon a ghost (?!). We're hopeful that this one will deliver atmospheric thrills and score a distribution deal so we can see it here in the U.S. [Fangoria]

Debuting Saturday, July 12 at Outfest in Los Angeles, Lyle stars Gaby Hoffman as a mother who must deal with a tragic turn of events. In this clip, she watches her infant daughter toddle out of sight, talking to someone she can't see, which must rank high among a parent's nightmares. [The Hollywood Reporter]
