This contest is now closed. It was a close Showdown, but Hawkeye topped Fury 113-88, with two draws. Check back tomorrow for a new Avengers Showdown!
OK Avengers fans, it's time for another Showdown. We'll save the heavy hitters (Iron Man, etc.) for next week, but for opening weekend, it seems almost right to feature the guy who recruited our heroes, Nick Fury. And since we purposely avoided the messy love affair between Hawkeye and Black Widow last week, it seems we should shine the spotlight on the archery assassin. We'd love to pit him against Katniss from The Hunger Games, but we'll just have to wait for some kind of a Marvel-Hunger Games crossover. Until then, let's take a look at this week's combatants.
In one corner, he's the one-eyed wonder of perpetual youth (as long as he gets his injections of the Infinity Formula). The director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury is a skilled combat veteran of three wars – World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He was a heavyweight boxer in the army and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu, not to mention he's honed his combat skills sparring with Captain America. In the other corner, is Clinton Francis Barton, otherwise known as Hawkeye. Hawkeye possesses no superhuman powers, but he is an expert marksman, acrobat and fencer. He too has been expertly trained by Cap in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts. But let's not kid ourselves, Hawkeye's strength lies in his array of trick arrows and keen eyesight. So who wins this Showdown and why? Would Fury make it a hand-to-hand slugfest or would Hawkeye pick Fury off from a distance?
Let us know below. We'll randomly pick a winner from the comments below (one comment per entrant). You must be 18 or older to enter and this contest runs until 11:59 p.m. PST on May 8, 2012. The prize? A $25 limited edition Avengers collectors gift card. You can also purchase them here.
Good luck Avengers fans. And if you're curious who won last week's showdown, Captain America rallied to topple Black Widow 194-156, with six draws, a few indecisive comments and one vote for the Hulk.
