'Avatar' Day Details Revealed!

Remember back at Comic-Con when we told you that August 21 would be Avatar Day, meaning James Cameron was screening 16 minutes of footage from his upcoming, much buzzed-about movie in IMAX theaters all across the world…for free? Well details regarding that special day have finally emerged, and The Hollywood Reporter tells us that tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis beginning this Monday, August 17 at noon PST (3pm EST) over at AvatarMovie.com.

Fans will be limited to two tickets per person to be used at one of 101 IMAX venues in the U.S. and Canada on August 21. The special 16-minute trailer will only be screened in 3D, and it will arrive with a special intro message from director James Cameron. According to THR, the trailer will be shown twice between 6-7pm. Also, on the same day, a standard trailer will arrive in theaters and online in all formats.
As far as what footage you should expect to see in the 16 minutes, THR says it will be much of the same screened at Comic-Con – which involved a 3D trip to planet Pandora with cool-looking blue Avatars, wolf-like creatures and battle sequences – as well as a brand new never-before-seen scene. 20th Century Fox and IMAX execs expect a whole ton of people to show up for this and try to snag tickets, so if you want in make sure you're the early bird to arrive at AvatarMovie.com on Monday to cash in on this pretty awesome (and free!) experience.
Avatar hits theaters on December 18.
