Armie Hammer, Garrett Hedlund Not in Contention for Finnick Odair Role in 'Catching Fire'

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire looks to be far from selecting their Finnick Odair, the heartthrob from District 4. Producer Nina Jacobsen told the L.A. Times that "we've not narrowed things down by any means" and said that Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund, who were rumored for the role, are not in contention.

"That's the thing that's crazy – people are like way ahead of where we are," Jacobson said.

Taylor Kitsch stated last week that he wouldn't be playing the role and Robert Pattinson made a similar statement. But with Hammer and Hedlund (yea, that sounds like a law firm) out of the running, are producers taking fan input into account? After all, there was a tremendous outpouring of support for the two actors throughout the Web and in our earlier blog post.

"It means something that people can see [an actor] in that light, so you know [the actor] will be accepted by a lot of people, on the one hand," Jacobsen said. "On the other hand, you have to kind of ignore it. you have to just sort of act like you're sitting in a room and you want to just pick he person who gives the best audition and looks and feels most like the part."

That approach led to the casting of Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role of Katniss, a move that at first glance received a lot of head shaking and reluctant acceptance. Since then, The Hunger Games has gone on to make $645 million worldwide.

With The Hunger Games: Catching Fire not due in theaters until November 2013, there's still plenty of time to fill the Odair role and it brings us back to square one.

Knowing R-Patz, Kitsch, Hammer and Hedlund are seemingly out of the running, who would you cast as Finnick?
