Anne Hathaway Confirms Role in Spielberg's 'Robopocalypse'

What better way to celebrate your birthday than confirming that you'll be starring in a Steven Spielberg movie? Anne Hathway is doing just that, as she turns 30 today.

Speaking with Empire magazine, Hathaway said, If Robopocalypse happens I will be in it and I believe it's quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything."

She adds, "Whenever I'm taking time off, I always joke to my team that I'm on vacation unless Steven Spielberg calls. And I was on vacation and he called so I was like, 'OK, put my money where my mouth is.'"

Hathaway had been rumored for the female lead role for the past several months. Ben Whishaw (he plays the new Q in Skyfall) recently joined the cast while Chris Hemsworth is reportedly still in negotiations while currently filming Thor: The Dark World.

Robopocalypse is an adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's best-selling sci-fi novel. Production is slated to begin in early 2013 with April 25, 2014 pegged as the release date.

Drew Goddard's script is expected to deviate heavily from the source material so there's no telling who Hathaway's character will be precisely. Fans of the book will note there are two female leads – a U.S. Senator and a grunt.

Are you happy to see Hathaway join this cast? How do you think Goddard will alter the female lead role?
