'Amazing Spider-Man' Images Tease Possible 'Sinister' Villains
Marc Webb, the director of next summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, has been relatively quiet on Twitter after wrapping up his New York-based shoot. Likely, he’s swamped in the editing bays trying to prep his anticipated sequel for its May 2, 2014 release date.
But that doesn’t mean the movie is completely off our radars. In fact, new images recently hit the Net (courtesy of Columbia Pictures), and one juicy photo was meant to tease fans who have been tracking Webb’s progress and speculating on villains for Spideys future. First, let’s get to the promo shots, which give us new looks at Paul Giamati’s take on the Rhino, Andrew Garfield’s web slinger, and Jamie Foxx’s Max Dillon… in pre-Electro mode:
And then, mixed in with the usual ASM 2 imagery, this photo drops. It shows Spider-Man film producer Avi Arad – a driving force behind Sony’s Spidey movies – sitting underneath an unsubtle reference to possible characters in upcoming sequels.
Does this mean we’ll definitely see the Sinister Six in a Spider-Man movie? Of course not. But it proves Arad, Webb and their team have been paying attention to the chatter generated by Spider-Man fans who realize we have a Rhino, a Lizard (Rhys Ifans), an Electro and two possible Goblins in this new Spider-Man universe. Add a few more villains and Spider-Man might have his hands full fighting off one of the largest criminal teams in Marvel history.
Webb will kick off next summer’s blockbuster season with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on May 2. I know it’s kind of insane to start talking about NEXT summer’s blockbuster season before THIS season has even officially wrapped. Well, that’s just how the cycle feeds itself, isn’t it?
