This Friday we finally get another Jack Ryan movie. It's only the fifth in the franchise, based on the series of novels by the late Tom Clancy, and already we're up to the fourth actor to portray the character: Chris Pine.
He's got some big shoes to fill as he follows in the footsteps of three great actors. First was Alec Baldwin, who kicked things off in The Hunt for Red October. Then Harrison Ford took over for Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Later, Ben Affleck was brought in for a younger-skewing The Sum of All Fears.
Now it's been 12 years since that previous attempt at a reboot and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit could have the goods to move the franchise forward. Maybe Pine will even get the opportunity to give us a face for the CIA analyst lasting more than one or two movies.
The question is, will he be the best Jack Ryan? Or at least a favorite?
This week we polled users on Twitter for their choice for the best actor in the role so far, and here are the results followed by a few select tweets:
Harrison Ford: 8
Alec Baldwin: 2
Ben Affleck: 0
@thefilmcynic Ford but really only because of my love for Clear and Present Danger.— Mark Smith (@Draven_AICN) January 15, 2014
@thefilmcynic Ford. No doubt. He best combined the confident intellect and gruff man-of-action sides of the character for the novels.— Brian J. Roan (@BrianJRoan) January 15, 2014
@thefilmcynic Baldwin fits book-Ryan best. Plus, Hunt is the best movie. But, seriously, Ford is always great, so that's splitting hairs.— Kyle Ailinger (@KAilinger) January 15, 2014
