Adam Sandler, 'Grown Ups 2' Lead Razzie Nominations

If Razzies were Oscars, Adam Sandler would be Meryl Streep.
This basically means that the group – which annually “celebrates” the worst that Hollywood has to offer – has honored Sandler with the most nominations this morning for his work in Grown Ups 2. The summer comedy, which costars Chris Rock and David Spade, led the Razzie nominees with eight nods including Worst Picture, Worst Sequel, Worst Ensemble and Worst Screenplay. Wait, that movie had a screenplay? Taylor Lautner also caught some of the Grown Ups stink, landing a Supporting Actor nod, while Salma Hayek grabbed a nom for Supporting Actress.
Also contending for Worst Picture this year will be: The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer; Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas; the Will Smith disaster After Earth; and comedy anthology Movie 43, which somehow starred Kate Winslet, Richard Gere, Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry.
How did that happen?
After Earth, Madea and Movie 43 each grabbed six nominations from the Razzies this morning. Big names Will and Jaden Smith (of After Earth), Perry and Larry the Cable Guy (of A Madea Christmas), and Berry and Naomi Watts also earned nods.
In so many ways, the Razzies do their best to stay one step ahead of the Academy. They reveal their nominees the day before Oscar unveils its selections. And they’ll hand out their trophies on March 1 – the night before the Academy gathers to celebrate the Oscars.
Will Sandler show up, the way Sandra Bullock and Halle Berry did in the past? It would set the Internet on fire, for sure. It might also prove Sandler has a good sense of humor… which the Razzies kind of doubt!
