Aaron Johnson Emerges as Front-Runner for 'Godzilla'

Earlier this week, Legendary Pictures brought in Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption) to polish up a script for the studios' upcoming Godzilla reboot. Today, Deadline is reporting that Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson has emerged as the front-runner for the lead role in the film.

Johnson starred in Oliver Stone's Savages and the Oscar-nominated drama Anna Karenina and will reprise his Kick-Ass role this summer in Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall. The actor isn't expected to make a final decision until the script has been completed.

Godzilla is set to release May 16, 2014 and is being directed by Gareth Edwards. The British filmmaker directed and wrote the 2010 sci-fi cult hit Monsters.

Earlier this week, WB held a webinar detailing the Godzilla project. Among the details revealed were two new monsters in addition to Godzilla and that the film would "follow the story of a soldier." It's presumed that Johnson would be up for the soldier role.

While all eyes are certainly on the monsters, do you like Johnson for this role?
