Proof that the trend of turning old television shows into feature-length movies isn't going away anytime soon (e.g. the Weinstein brother's Miramax plans), a movie adaptation of the '60 TV series Gilligan's Island is now in the works.
The plans seems to be further along that just announcing the project. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has cast Frozen star Josh Gad as one of the leading characters in the film, though the studio did not elaborate on which character he would play. Gad will also cowrite the film.
The comedy series about seven castaways who wind up stranded on a tropical island has endured through the years thanks to television syndication.
We can presume Gad will most likely play either Gilligan or the Professor, which begs the question of who you'd cast as the remaining castaways – the Skipper, Mr. and Mrs. Howell, Mary Ann and Ginger.
My personal picks: Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Skipper, Michael Cera as Gilligan, George Clooney and Susan Sarandon as Mr. and Mrs. Howell, Christina Hendricks as Ginger, Mila Kunis as Mary Ann and Gad as the Professor.
What do you think? Any actors you'd swap out? Also, let's hope this isn't an origins story.
