2011 Cannes Lineup Revealed; Includes Freaky ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Movie

'Tree of Life'The 2011 Cannes Film Festival lineup is out and ready to seduce those traveling to France next month for a week-or-so of all different types of films from around the world. Big, well-known titles include the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Terrence Malick’s long-awaited Tree of Life (starring Brad Pitt), Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (with Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan), Lars Von Trier’s trippy, end-of-days drama Melancholia, Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, and so much more from directors like Pedro Almodovar (The Skin That I Live In), Lynne Ramsay (We Need To Talk About Kevin), The Dardenne Brothers (The Kid With The Bike), and Paolo Sorrentino (This Must Be The Place), among others.
One strange little flick features break-out star Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) as a prostitute who takes sleeping pills and then lets "things' happen to her while she’s asleep so she won’t remember them. While it’s called Sleeping Beauty, there’s nothing innocent or PG-rated about this film, which features the directorial debut of novelist Julia Leigh. The recently-released trailer (watch it below) feels like a cross between Sofia Coppola and Stanley Kubrick, with the presence of intense danger and mystery engulfing every inch of footage.
The trailer is slightly NSFW due to images of brief nudity, so beware.
