15 Things You Didn't Know About the Muppets

With Muppets Most Wanted in theaters this week, we give you some factoids you might not have known about these furry friends.

2. Animal can be defined by five words: sex, sleep, food, drums and pain.

3. Floyd Pepper’s character is a direct reference to the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

5. In The Great Muppet Caper Fozzie and Kermit are identical twin brothers with the same father.  Can you see the resemblance?

6. Miss Piggy was modeled after the singer Peggy Lee. She has been referenced as Miss Peggy Lee on The Muppet Show television series.

7. The Swedish Chef had his own popular cereal in the '80s: Croonchy Stars.

8. Zoot. It’s been hinted that this talented saxophonist is, in fact, homeless.

9. Dr. Teeth, the leader of the Electric Mayhem, was inspired by jazz keyboardest Dr. John and Elton John.

10. Famous lips. Electric Mayhem's guitarist Janice was modeled after Mick Jagger.

11. Rowlf was the first Muppet to rise to stardom with a string of Purina Dog Chow commercials.

12. Till death do us part: all of Kermit and Piggy's weddings have been fictional.

13. According to puppeteer Jerry Nelson, Uncle Deadly was his tribute to actor John Carradine, whose sometimes hammy performances were a staple of horror films.

14. Robin the Frog is Kermit’s nephew and makes a rare comeback in the new movie Muppets Most Wanted

15. Rizzo the Rat's character inspiration was plucked from Dustin Hoffman’s performance in Midnight Cowboy.
