Moonrise Kingdom was a touching yet hilarious story that I is one of my top movies. If you've seen Hugo and liked it, this movie is just as good if not better

Warm, whimsical, and poignant, the immaculately framed and beautifully acted Moonrise Kingdom presents writer/director Wes Anderson at his idiosyncratic best

Imagine, if you will, a film with Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDonmand, Tilda Swinton, and Bill Murray, and each of these fine actors are smoked off the screen by two unknown teens in their film debuts - Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman. The kids play two troubled teens who escape from their stifling home environments and go on an adventure, with a few dozen boy scouts and the town police in hot pursuit. It's all very cute and charming, except for the part where the dog gets killed. The only other negative aspect is Bob Balaban who acts as a "narrator" but his drole commentary somehow doesn't work. Balaban is a great actor, so blame it on the director if you must - Wes Anderson. Personally I didn't like any of Anderson's films that I saw previously ("The Royal Tennenbaums", "Rushmore") but this one is really good.

The kids are fantastic in their roles and the Wes standby's of Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman do not disappoint. Bruce Willis and Ed Norton are welcome additions to the Anderson family.

If you've loved his past films, then you will love this one. This film is a bit more laid back than his previous films, and unfortunately there is a lack of Kinks music in this one. But this should not deter you from going to see it. It is still a wonderful first love story, told Wes Andersen style. Go see it.
