This movie may not make a ton of money as there are no car crashes, an absence of special effects, no murder or mayhem - not even any swearing!!! This was just a fabulous, off the wall movie. Casting was superb! A memorable treasure!

Return to the right direction for Wes Anderson...

Since RUSHMORE I've been less and less in love with Wes' flicks... love looking AT all of them... but from TENNENBAUMS thru AQUATIC and to DARJEELING each film offered slightly less BEYOND the look of the movie. MOONRISE KINGDOM (which for some reason I kept calling MONSOON KINGDOM-- which kinda fit even after seeing the movie) does still have the look I love in Anderson's films... but brings some heart back to the story. So, for my money, we're back in TENNENBAUMS country... not quite RUSHMORE, but a very good movie!! (And, as I've said, I was losing hope by degrees, so this made me very happy.) Do see it and enjoy the craft and the story, too! Mike C

Moonrise Kingdom was a touching yet hilarious story that I is one of my top movies. If you've seen Hugo and liked it, this movie is just as good if not better

This film was a very odd little piece, that would appeal to a specific audience. It had the look and feel of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's 'Neighbors'. If you like dark comedy with a twist...welcome.

Great fun for WA fans and most others

First of all, all the stuff you expect to see in a Wes Anderson flick is there. Setpieces, whimsy, musical choices, the slow-mo walk to music, quirky to the point of impossible characters etc....but it all works, and works much better that some of his more recent efforts. The young love story is sweet, and reflected in the adults around them in interesting ways. Tilda Swinton doesn't have much to do though, and there's a moment when things got a bit creepy for me between the young leads, but other than these minor mis-steps it was wonderful, and at just over 90 minutes things move quickly along with no fiddling around. A must for WA fans, and accessible to everyone, I think.
