    Great storytelling and cinematography....

I'd recommend this movie to anyone. Great romantic, historical epic type movie. The cinematogrphy, as everyone has mentioned, is beautifully moving. I agree the CGI blood moments were a bit unnecessary, and they stood out as unrealistic, which didn't follow the rest of the real, raw, more believable stuff. CGI is weird like that in movies. It's a balance of not too jarring and not too phony. I thought the love story was beautiful and well balanced, again thanks to the expert cinematography which told alot of the story without words. I really enjoyed watching this film. It had genuine humor and clarity in the intent of the shots. Also the costuming and art direction was superb. The acting is wonderful too. The kids were great actors in it as well as the adult actors. It created the nomadic, tribal, ancient world with great detail and skill. Again I think thanks to the cinematography.
    Go see it!

    Ride out and see it!

     by  Turion

Mongol is as breathtaking in its cinematography as it is in its story. True love, romance, epic battles, triumph, defeat. The tale of the man we know as Genghis Khan shows us the human side of a man who has been vilified in Western society (mostly because in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, he created the army and dynasty that nearly conquered the world.) His empire was larger than Alexander's. His laws were simple and fair.
Here we see a small slice of his life, leading up to the beginning of his reign as "The Great Khan."
We also see, beautifully filmed, the lands of Mongolia, little changed by time. A wonderful experience, a wonderful story, masterfully told. Go see it at the theatre - it needs the big screen.

    Mongol

My husband loved it for the historical info and the action. I left several times: too bloody, one fight after another, no character development, and I don't understand why people want to conquer other people. Uck.

Take a trip to the past

Stunning landscapes and realistic living conditions will draw you in and make this bit of history feel very real. I know some folks (including most present day Mongolians!) feel it is not historically accurate; this may be true. There are no written records of these times, other than those written from the point of view of the non-Mongols conquered by Ghengis Khan. So what is historically accurate is a moot point. Just the same, the realistic vision of day-to-day life, and a reasonable guess at the social structure and guidelines make for fascinating viewing. The overwhelming landscape itself becomes a major character in the movie.

    Mongol

I liked the film because it seemed to capture 12th century Mongol life. As to the acting, much of it is conveyed by what is NOT said. This forces the viewer to align himself with what the character seems to be thinking. The pacing was a tad slow and I expected more revelation of the Khan's story. However, it is a great looking film. The film does a good job describing the culture and social norms of its characters. It's hard to compare this film to other movies because the director or writer seems to be aiming for a different sort of biopic. There are fleeting elements of destiny and spirituality that are omitted from other action pictures.

    Mongol

Very interesting movie. Story of the different clans of what is now Mongolia and how they eventually united under Genghis Khan to become a state.

A little bloody but that is the way Mongolia was at that time.

    Beautiful scenery

    Mongol

Great movie, good character development and an interesting story. But I felt like it would have been nice if the movie had reached the imperailism stage.

    Good Movie

I enjoyed the movie. I recently read a book about Ghengis Khan so was familiar with the story. I did think it spent a little too much time about his early years. I would have appreciated it if it had shown even a little about the empire that he went on to build.

    Was expecting much more

     by  jeevan

This is truly a different side of Gengis Khan. I was expecting him to conquer all over the world but there was something different in the movie. Excellent Cinematography and acting. Expected too much and did'nt get that much.

This is a great movie about a person, culture, period, and part of the world most Americans know little about. In spite of subtitles, it is easy to follow and very well acted and directed. Ghengis Khan is facinating!
