Good if interested in World's religions, Tibetan Buddhist history, or Milarepa
Classical teachings on greed, revenge, conscience from Tibetan view with incredibly sere landscape of northern India's Himalayan mountains mimicking that of Tibet, leading up to the point of spiritual study by Milarepa. Interestingly, the chanting voice-over at the close of the film, as Milarepa enters a cave/tunnel at a high mountain pass with many Tibetan prayer flags fluttering, is the Vajra Guru Mantra, very important in T. Buddhism.
The film was excellent for me because it was so not Hollywood. When viewing the credits there were all these Tibetan names I could not pronounce. How cool is that!
