Good if interested in World's religions, Tibetan Buddhist history, or Milarepa

Classical teachings on greed, revenge, conscience from Tibetan view with incredibly sere landscape of northern India's Himalayan mountains mimicking that of Tibet, leading up to the point of spiritual study by Milarepa. Interestingly, the chanting voice-over at the close of the film, as Milarepa enters a cave/tunnel at a high mountain pass with many Tibetan prayer flags fluttering, is the Vajra Guru Mantra, very important in T. Buddhism.
The film was excellent for me because it was so not Hollywood. When viewing the credits there were all these Tibetan names I could not pronounce. How cool is that!

    We loved it!

Beautiful scenery, inspiring story, wonderful words of wisdom. If you want a fast action movie this is not it. If you have a mystic inclination and/or willing to read subtitles and slowly take in the beauty of the film I think you will, like me, be looking forward to part 2 coming out in 2009.

    better luck next time

I was really hoping that "Milarepa" would be an inspiring, interesting and/or thoughtful movie, but it was not. Except for a heart-felt performance by the actress who portrayed Milarepa's mother (she should have studied to become the witch/sorcerer and exact revenge upon her sadistic relations and apathetic neighbors!) many of the actors, especially the lead actor who portrayed Milarepa, acted as if they truly were suffering from extreme cold and hunger. Poor story telling, slow plot line and then "Part 2 coming in 2008?" Sheesh, it all could have been satisfyingly done in just one movie. As for "Milarepa, Part 2", better luck next time, but I think I'll read a book on the subject instead.
