    Middle of Nowhere

    by

Excellent. Artfully done with powerful performances. Subtle scenes that invoke so much emotion. I couldn't stop thinking about it for hours after. It's a must see. Let's give it some love, Chicago.

    Well done

I thought the movie was very good. The story was not a feel good story so don't expect a Hollywood feel good ending. The film by Ava DuVernay is about a young med student and her incarcerated husband. Well filmed, understated and beautifully told cinema. Great acting, writing and directing. The music was incredible and well placed. Solid editing.

    Middle of Nowhere

This is a powerful story of a powerful individual trying to maintain a committed relationship. Derek and Ruby are in a relationship and suddenly Derek is incarcerated. Ruby visits him regularly and makes a point to keep the relationship going and get Derek before the parole board for his release. At the parole board hearing Ruby gets a rude awakening. The most significant change in the film to me is Derek's growing interest in maintaining a committed relationship. Ava DuVernay writes full, complex, rich Black male characters that need to be seen more on film. -RF.

Middle of Nowhere - Not to be missed!

Middle of Nowhere grabbed me from the beginning, I became totally absorbed in the story.
The director did a superb job, her Sundance Award was well deserved.
All of the actors were believable and masterful in their roles.
I observed that many audience members stopped eating their popcorn and drinking sodas!
Now that says something about the power of this film's story.

    Middle of Nowhere

Ava DuVernay did a superb job of keeping you on the edge of your seat. This taut drama was buoyed by strong performances by the entire cast and masterfully lensed by Brad Young. I've got to see it again!

    Middle of Nowhere

I did like the film because it's a situation that happens in real life. People have and are currently experiencing the same issues. I recognized the actress that played the mother from other movies. The director did a great job on the directing and the story line. This movie is for adults only.

    Independent Score

    by

Middle of Nowhere is a heartfelt story of love, commitment and the strength it takes to do something other than what you've already tried. Characters are believable and likable even when you don't want to like them. Make sure you add this one to your must see list.

    Common Story but...

I was so excited to see this movie.

It was good but NOT very realistic in the gritty sense of how things go down. Yes, women wait, pay for lawyers, deal with family drama and dream of him holding you in the middle of the night while you sleep. But, we also find out more than he was having relations with the corrections officer on duty. Women deal with those other women who come and see the man you love because he's also the man THEY love too. Women deal with down-low men behind the walls of prison, their partners who lie about the actual time they are doing because they cannot or won't share how much time they have been sentenced.

I think those who don't know this life will benefit more than those who have on more than once occassion visited someone they love in jail.

I'm not sure if the idea of the move was to show the lack of black men available because they are in jail and how women are missing out on the good ones who are right in front of them. Check it out.

    Pretty Darn Good

    by

This was a classic love triangle story, but the main character Ruby had more power than in usual stories of this nature. She was the master of her own destiny. At first I rooted for her original relationship and did not sympathize with her conflicting feelings, but as the movie went on and revealed the reasons behind why Ruby made the choices she made I found myself empathizing more with her and applauding her as she became strong on her own. I think for an indie film this was good, but if it is to be made into a major motion picture (which it should) then certain aspects should be explored more. Maybe include some flashbacks to explain Ruby's mother, why Ruby's sister ended up a single mom (just like their mom) but couldnt agree with her, show more of Omari Hardwick's character's background and give us MORE at the end! That was one thing that upset me, the ending. I understand why it ended that way leaving Ruby open to make her own decision, but can we come to a real conclusion plz?!

    Middle of Nowhere Excellence!

This movie is truly amazing. Ava Duverney is clearly a dedicated artist with an eye for scene development. Every single scene was crafted perfectly. This movie is truly enjoyable. It is absolutely worth supporting it!

    Middle of Nowhere

    by

Beautifully shot, with characters that were real life (by that I mean that they were faced with choices that didn't come with easy answers). One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. A welcome break from all the remakes and mega blockbusters. A little movie with a great story and good acting. Reminded me of "Love Jones".

    Great Film!

    by cnr836

This film has a great story line, great acting, great cinematography, and great writing. Middle of Nowhere addressed themes such as love, relationships, family dynamics, learning when to let go, and living in the present. The director Ava DuVernay, won Best Director 2012 at Sundance this year for the film (the first African American woman to do so) for good reason. The soundtrack is even good. Films this good rarely come around, especially a black film. This is a must see!

"Middle of Nowhere" is a keeper

    by dstdiva

One of the best movies I've sen in a long time. The story is somewhat complicated, but it puts a spotlight of what happens when your world you know is turned upside down. Are you emotionally stuck? Do you hold on to the past? Do you try to put the past behind you, and try to make a change - your mind says yes, but your heart says no - to could change the course of your future? The acting was phenomenal! Some real life lesson here. What would YOU do? Go see this film; you won't be disappointed.

    Water in the desert

    by daveyp

At last a film where adult African Americans don't behave like cartoonish children, where the situation is relevant to the culture but handled in a way that allows others access, where the soundtrack isn't telegraphing how you should feel, or is overburdened by cross-promotion with the dreck from the record labels. I enjoyed it HUGELY. Go see it!
