I read the book, but I think I like the movie better. They picked perfect actors for the roles. The visuals are fantastic! You really connect with what Chiyo is feeling. This is a must-see movie.

Flavored ice treat?

This is an interesting original film, disturbing, stylish and lush for your eyes and ears. Film is a pre WW2 story about human trafficking, which at times gets lost in the beautiful costumes, movie sets and background. An obvious reason for such heavy "makeup" is to beautify the basic plot, but can only go so far with such a disturbing fantasy. The fantasy is an adult man buys a flavored ice treat for a little girl. The girl falls in love with the man and devotes her life to pursuing a romance with him. It sounds like a pedophile's fantasy. This is the essence of the story of a famous geisha, based on the Arthur Golden novel.
