Finally an action movie that has not only a ton of stuff blowing up, but plays the comedic angle well. I would suggest though to see Captain America and both of the Iron Man movies before seeing this. But IMAX 3D is the way to go.

Just incredibly well done. The 3d is incredibly well done. The writing is typically Whedonesque. Most fun I've had at the movies in a long long time.

I just saw "Avengers" in IMAX 3D - it's probably one of the better superhero movies in recent years. The Dark Knight movies are great, cool, dark, brooding .... but Avengers delivers something more - FUN. Joss Whedon's script manages to tie these disparate characters together. Joss' post-Buffy writing skills haven't waned - great comebacks & pop-culture references abound.
Avengers delivers some great action set pieces splitting the team into smaller groups with various tasks. This is a staple of the better "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episodes that Joss Whedon wrote (and directed).
All the heroes are well represented (I'm an Iron Man & Captain America fan), but Hulk & Black Widow surprised me. I really enjoyed the performances of Mark Ruffalo & Scarlet Johannson.

When you go to the movies, and see a picture, you either like or dislike the film...period. However, he IMAX 3D viewing of the Avengers was an Event! Having read the comics in the 1960's as a young boy, I have great expectations of what the film should be like. The Avengers far surpassed my wildest expectations. There is Action, comedy, light romance and even momentary sadness and conflict - every thing I got from reading the comic book 40 years ago. I brought my 11 year boy (whom I knew would love it )and my 14 year old daughter whom I expected to be flip about it - She loved it as much as I did. There was laughter and applause - you do get that from today's teenager everyday. We went 2 and a half hours early to get a good seat. I got to listen to the kids moan and complain. I swore to them they would say it was worth it at the end. That's exactly what my daughter said. If you only see one film this year , See The Avengers.

The movie trailers do not do this movie justice. I did not expect too much out of this flick but I am glad I had the foresight to drag my friends to an IMAX theater. This flick is worth every penny of that IMAX 3D ticket. It's been a long time a summer movie like this has brightened an otherwise tough year for most of us. It was just nice to escape into this IMAX theater and be captivated by this Marvel Comic masterpiece of pure fun. For those who plan on seeing this for the first time or if you plan on going again-two words of advice-1 View it in an IMAX theater, and 2- don't leave right away, stay ALL the way through the end credits for one more smile at the end. it's worth it.
