My roommate opted out of going because his friends said this was the worst comic movie ever. I told him he needs new friends. I did think the mass destruction toward the end (not really a spoiler if you've seen any press on the film so far) was a bit over-the-top. But then again, Superman always is a bit over the top.
The performances were fantastic - I'll agree that Zod was a tad one dimensional - but again Zod is always one dimensional.

Loved the movie and the new Superman! I didn't see it in 3D, but it was still one of the best movies so far this year.

The critical reviews on this film only speak to the degree to which professional critics are overly academic in how they review films or the degree to which fanboys cannot stand change. I have not talked to anyone who did not like this movie. This is not an overly dark interpretation of Superman as some have complained. He's still the optimistic farm boy from Kansas, his suit is just a couple shades darker and his underwear are on the inside of his pants where they belong. Lois Lane and her relationship to Clark is reinvented for the better, the villain actually has a comprehensible motivation(a big change from previous movies), and we finally get to see Superman punch something. People seem to be holding this movie to an absurd standard when in reality its a solid film, the casting was great, the action is amazing, some of the cast really shine, and there are no glaring plot holes. It is definitely worth seeing.

Man of Steel celebrates the most iconic super hero on his 75th anniversary with a bang. Beginning with young Kal-El's evacuated from Krypton, we get glimpses through his young struggle being more than human, to his rise as Superman and his cataclysmic conflict with a figure of his past.
While fans of the original mythos of Superman might have some issue with details in continuity, which may bring confusion on new fans. At times some feel simply forced and only there to get a reaction. Yet, the movie itself is greatly paced and well written and while the special effects can be odd, the action gives impact and defines the Man of Steel's strength.
It appears the most inspiration was taken from the new 52 and Earth One comics, some scenes matching almost exactly. As this Superman is shown as more of a confused, scared and even at times brooding adolescent and comes to an end with a chilling act of desperation.
I give it a 9 out of 10 and call it a must see

Im a Superman fan, and I did not like this movie at all. The jumping of the chronological order was horrible
